Bordeaux embarrasses Monaco with the help of poor officiating

I dislike when poor officiating ruin a game. This evening, Bordeaux hosted Monaco and came away with a 4-1 victory, thanks to referee Tony Chapron and his equally blind assistant. Sure, Monaco were the favorites to win before the game, but knowing Willy Sagnol, I was expecting Bordeaux to pressure Monaco and come away with a narrow 2-1 victory.

Monaco give away a few corners at the start of the match, which Bordeaux didn’t make use of. Ocampos and Berbatov started brightly for Monaco and Berba drew first blood by striking home a deft goal in the 44th minute.

In the second half, Bordeaux was the much better team and eventually got the best of Monaco. They got their reward through Rolan in the 47th minute. Khazri was having a good game for Bordeaux until he dove for a penalty. From the back, it did look like a penalty, but replay showed that it was an actual dive. It didn’t stop Sala from powering home the penalty in the 61st minute to put the hosts ahead. There was nothing Danijel Subasic could have done to stop it.

In the 64′ there was no coming back for Monaco when Rolan scored the 3rd goal for the hosts. Another goal which shouldn’t have counted because he was CLEARLY offside. At this point, the match should have been 1-1. After that 3rd goal, it was like energy seeped out of the Monaco side and they just wanted the nightmare to be over. Bringing on Yannick Ferreira Carrasco (I tend to call him Cabella’s twin. Yes, it’s a hair thing) couldn’t help them.

But the diving perfectionist was at it again. Subasic made little contact with Khazri at the edge of the area and he went over as if a ton of bricks was dropped on him. Subasic went into the book and another penalty was awarded to Bordeaux. The goalie shouldn’t have hastily rushed out, but Khazri shouldn’t have been diving either. The diving perfectionist converted the penalty for a 4-1 lead to call it a day in the 74th minute.

Falcao tried, but you could see he is not 100% as yet and even he too was disinterested at times. I think Monaco should invest in a forward.

I love Sagnol because he knows how to use youngsters. They’re going to get chances to shine under him this season.

And they say the Ligue 1 is boring.

Stats:

^ It’s a 100% record for Bordeaux and they’re tied on top of the Ligue with Saint-Etienne.

^ Wahbi Khazri has been awarded 5 penalties in Ligue 1 since his debut in 2012/13, more than any other player.

^ In their last 5 previous meetings, Bordeaux has not beaten Monaco.
