They say a fit Sergio Aguero can be compared to his best friend, Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo on a good day and last evening, Aguero showed the world why he’s worthy of these comparisons. Well, think about City without Aguero. You get the picture!
City hosted Bayern Munich and came away victorious with a nice 3-2 win, all thanks to Aguero. City played with no pressure as if they weren’t on the brink of being eliminated had Roma won against CSKA Moscow. BUT …. if Roma win their last game, they will go through regardless of what Moscow do and if City win, Moscow could still knock them out IF they win against Bayern Munich.
But back to the game last evening at the Etihad.
City took the lead through an Aguero penalty in the 21′ which saw Mehdi Benatia getting his marching orders. Bayern was left to fend with 10 men, but in the 40′ the birthday boy, Xabi Alonso struck goal from a free kick. It was nothing special. He was just lucky City was not doing their job. Bayern added another goal just before half time through Lewandowski.
City’s redemption didn’t come until the 85′ all thanks to a rare misplaced pass from the birthday boy, which Jovetic gobbled up with delight and set up Aguero for the equalizer. The game look set to end in a draw, but in the last minute, Jerome Boateng handed victory to City after a lapse in control (He was the one who also handed the CL to Chelsea) and Aguero was able to complete his hat trick.
In the end, spirit won the game. City showed true spirit. They kept going, they kept fighting and although some might say they didn’t deserve the win, I think they did.
Shout out to Mangala who also had a great game.
