Napoli come from behind to draw with Empoli

Jonathan De Guzman of Napoli celebrates after scoring the goal 2-2 during the Serie A match between SSC Napoli and Empoli FC at Stadio San Paolo on December 7, 2014 in Naples, Italy.

In what could only be described as a disappointing game by Napoli, they should be counting themselves lucky after rescuing a draw.

Empoli was in full control on Napoli home grounds in the first half. They were rewarded for their hard work in the 19′ when Simone Verdi slotted home past Rafael. Napoli was caught out cold on the break for that one. In the 53′ Empoli doubled their lead after a corner fell for Daniele Rugani and he slammed it home from six yards out.

At this point with Empoli in the lead, it looked as if the game was set to end in the visitors’ favor, until the 67′ when Zapata headed home from a corner. Five minutes later, De Guzman picked up a deflected Callejon cut-back and he made no mistake in burying it for the equalizer and final goal of the match.

2-2 at the final whistle.

Napoli currently sits in 4th with 24 points while Empoli occupies the 13th position with 15 points.
