Marseille v Lyon 1-1: Valbuena given the traitor treatment

Valbuena played against his former club and they did not exactly welcome him back with open arms. Marseille fans were a disgrace and at one point they even pelt him with rubbish when he attempted to take a corner. They hung an effigy of him prior to the game to show how they felt about their former playmaker.

Giving Mathieu the traitor treatment was vile.

Lacazette converted a penalty for his first goal of the season in the 25th minute. Alessandrini then saw straight red for trying to break Valbuena’s legs reducing Marseille to ten men. Play was suspended in the 62nd minute when glass bottles were thrown on the pitch at Lyon players notably Valby.

When play restarted after a near 24 minutes, Marseille got right into the swing of things with Karim Rekik scoring a heading equalizer in the 69th minute.

Valbuena, a former Marseille player, left the club the summer before last, before joining Lyon this season

This also happened:

Marseille coach Franck Passi has to be pulled away by Michy Batshuayi in the tunnel from verbally abusing Mathieu Valbuena. (C+)

OM coach Passi to Valbuena at halftime: “Stay on your feet! We know you Mathieu, stop fu***** about.”

Valby: “Franck! Not you as well!”

So much for coaches setting examples! Valby was a professional though!
