Arsenal had it to do away against Olympiakos last evening in the knockout stage of the Champions League and many were expecting Arsenal to exit given that half of their squad was out injured. I, on the other hand, put my faith in Olivier Giroud and he didn’t let me down as his hat-trick played a major key role in sending the English side to the round of 16.
It was a must win match for the Gunners and Giroud was up for the challenge. The Frenchman got the party started in the 29th minute when he kissed the end of Ramsey’s cross and power headed the ball home. That boy loves scoring with his head, I tell you! In the second half it seems as if Giroud would’ve left the game early after collapsing in a heap on the pitch, clutching his ankle which appeared to be twisted. He eventually got back to his feet and a minute later or so, he found the back of the net after getting on the end of a through-ball from Campbell. A penalty was awarded to Arsenal when Elabdellaoui appeared to have handled the ball. Giroud stepped up and calmly converted the penalty completing his hat-trick.
Arsenal won 3-0 and Giroud was the Man of the Match. It was indeed his finest moment for Arsenal for this sweet hat-trick was his first for the English club and what a fine time to score it! He took it upon himself to deliver when his team and fans needed it the most. Call it redemption, call it whatever, I call it a victory and I am delighted for the Frenchman.
If fans would stop their hating, they’ll see that Giroud has now netted 10 goals in his last 12 matches. Keep doing you, Giruu! Also, special mention to Mr. Wenger, whose faith in my favorite French striker has never wavered.
Olivier Giroud is the highest scoring Frenchman in 2015 with 30 goals; 2 goals more than Antoine Griezmann.
