Cornet and Lacazette ruin Valencia’s parade, but it wasn’t enough

Already eliminated from the Champions League, Lyon had nothing to lose as they rained on Valencia’s parade at the Mestalla, beating the Spanish side 2-0. Valencia had to beat Lyon to reach the knockout stages of the competition, but Lyon had other plans.

Maxwel Cornet curled home a spectacular strike in the 37th minute giving the visitors advantage. Lacazette claimed the second and final goal of the match in the 76th minute giving Lyon a well-deserved victory. Valencia struggled to create any real chances during the game. As for Lyon, had they played this way during their group stage campaign, they wouldn’t have been exiting the big stage. I am still warming up to the new coach.
