The company Benzema keeps

I’ve been asked what are my views on Karim Benzema being involved in the Mathieu Valbuena sex tape allegation, and all I could think about was the fact that he was embarrassing Les Bleus as a player. Both players actually.

Benzema is now banned from the national side as allegations of blackmail continue to plague him. He’s doing quite fine with Real Madrid though. Although the player “accepted” the decision of the FFF, his agent, Karim Djaziri is not helping his image at the moment.

He recently ranted:

“There is a form of hatred against Karim because of his origins. I’ve heard it say that he does not like France. You don’t play 81 times for the French team if you don’t like France. He has had to make a difficult choice. He might have played for Algeria, the land of his parents, or the country of his birth, France. He chose France and has proudly represented them 81 times.”

While it might be true that some fans don’t like Benzema, I can assure Mr. Djaziri that there are fans who don’t like Giroud, Fekir and even Lloris, so I think this statement was ignorant. You’re not going to find a complete warm and lovable fan base anywhere. Some people love you, some people hate you, but it’s what you do with the attention.

He went on to talk about Benzema’s good looks and wealth:

“He’s a good-looking, young, rich footballer of Maghreb and Muslim descent. He crystallizes many things. There will be people who don’t like the left, the right, the old, the young and Benzema has many attributes that attract this form of hate.”

Somebody’s been hanging out with Cristiano! Who cares what descent Benzema is off? He has more fans than Giroud in France even if he doesn’t sing the national anthem. I think it’s time for Benzema to start cleaning out the company he hangs with starting with this agent and his so-call blackmailer of a best friend because they’re not doing anything positive for his image.
