Champions League last 16 draw: Arsenal draws Bayern Munich for the 100th time

It’s getting rather ridiculous now when it comes to Bayern Munich v Arsenal and Barcelona v PSG.

I have been following the CL closely this season and when it boils down to the last 16, given that Bayern Munich didn’t win their group, I just knew they were going to get stuck with Arsenal. I also knew that FC Barcelona was going to play against Paris Saint-Germain.

It’s so predictable, it’s boring now.

Boring that we’ve seen Bayern-Arsenal matches at least 8 times over the last five years. Boring that Real Madrid always seems to get the easiest opponents available. Boring that Barcelona can’t quit PSG. And had Arsenal finished second? They would’ve gotten Barcelona. Another boring fixed rigging.

100 goals for Cavani!

Edinson Cavani is still scoring and racking up the goals!

Cavani scored his 100th goal for PSG last evening against Angers in the Ligue 1. PSG won 2-0.

El Matador dedicated his goal to Chapecoense (this was some really heartbreaking stuff and it still hurts right in the heart) by taking off his jersey to reveal a t-shirt underneath bearing the logo of the Brazilian team.

He was booked, but it was a worthy yellow. Rules are rules and if a player removes his shirt, it is a yellow card offense. After the game, Cavani took to social media:

‘I’m sending all my strength and blessings to all family members of the great Chapecoense team struggling today to get through’

Very nice gesture from the Uruguayan.

Cavani is also the Ligue 1 player of the month as I mentioned last time. A huge congrats once again!

Edinson Cavani can’t stop scoring!

Edinson Cavani is a goal scoring machine. Last night, he scored the opener and the only goal for Uruguay in their 3-1 defeat against Chile in the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifications.

STATS BABY!

Edi has now scored more goals for his country (37) than Diego Forlan (36). Only his good friend Luis Suarez has more (47).

Cavani has now scored 20 goals in 20 games for club & country this season.

Cavani is also the 3rd player to score against the other 9 national teams in WC Qualifiers (Luis Suarez and Agustin Delgado).

This man is on fire.

LIGUE 1 PLAYER OF THE MONTH

El Matador was once again rewarded with the Ligue 1 Player of the Month award having won in Seprember thanks to 5 goals in 4 appearences. A great achievement! He’s been awfully clinical this season and I like that he’s finally starting to show the world what he is made of. I won’t be surprise if he tops the Ligue at the end of the season.

Congrats Edi! Don’t stop shining.

Clinical Cavani ensures victory for PSG over Bordeaux

Do you know how HAPPY I am EVERYTIME Cavani bangs them in?

Edinson Cavani and Di Maria’s partnership is working well. The duo seems to be hitting all the right notes and the footballing world is taking notes. Di Maria found Cavani in the 3rd minute of action against Bordeaux resulting in the opener. Yes, it was a header. Cavani is so good with his head! The second and final goal of the game came in the 30th minute when Kurzawa managed to find El Matador, who scored a wicked backheel goal to take PSG back to winning wins in the league.

This brace means that El Matador now has 10 goals in six games.

CL: Cavani comes to PSG’s rescue in Bulgaria

Cavani’s brace gives PSG the Group A winner.

Thirty-four years ago, Paris Saint-Germain made their European debut in Bulgaria. They were beaten 1-0 by Lokomotiv Sofia at the Vasil Levski stadium. Returning to this very same ground last evening, the Parisian side locked horns with another Bulgarian team, Ludogorets.

Natanael opened the scoring with a STUNNER of a free kick in the 16th minute leaving PSG to climb the hill. However, Matuidi leveled things up in the 41st minute just before half-time. In the 55th minute, Cavani made it 2-1 with a header from a Di Maria’s free kick assist. El Matador put the icing on the cake five minutes later when he bagged a brace after Alphonse Areola saved a penalty.

I see room for improvement for PSG. With Emery, things have gone just a little bit backwards, but he’ll get there.

Man of the Weekend: Edinson Cavani

It’s been a while since I’ve done this. A few footballers had a fantastic weekend, including Lionel Messi and James Rodriguez, but this honor goes to Edinson Cavani.

El Matador had a few stressful games with the pressure mounting on his back. He managed to score on PSG’s outing against Arsenal in their 2016/17 Champions League opener, but then he squandered a few chances. Over the weekend, El Matador wasted no time in finding his shooting boots and quieting some loud mouth critics. Sure, it was just Caen he put 4 away against, but the MOST IMPORTANT thing is that he found his target every time. Also, I am LOVING the understanding between Cavani and Thomas Meunier. He finally has a reliable partner.
