Trinidad and Tobago kicks USA out of the World Cup

99th-ranked T&T held nothing back last evening against the 28th-ranked USA as they beat them 2-1 in a physical game. Although I applaud the boys’ effort, this victory did nothing for me because they won’t be going to Russia. I don’t want to hear the Americans blaming the pitch either because Lionel Messi scored a hattrick on a bad pitch in Ecuador to take Argentina to the WC.

Also, to the Americans saying that T&T is 1.3 million and the USA is 323 million, stop it. It’s lame and embarrassing.

Congrats T&T.

Lionel Messi puts Argentina on his back and carries them to Russia 2018

The road to Russia seem impossible, but then Messi intervened.

On the 10th of the 10th month, the world’s greatest number 10 gave a 10/10 performance.

What is Argentina without Lionel Messi? I’ll tell you: nothing.

Where I work, a co-worker was saying that we should get ready to see an Argentina-less World Cup, but I laughed because I just knew Messi was going to get the last word against Ecuador and he certainly did in the 3-1 victory over the Ecuadorians last evening.

Some bitter people are saying to stop saying that Leo single-handedly took Argentina to the World Cup. I know he did not play alone against 11 players, but Leo was the only player to score a competitive goal for Argentina in 11 months. HE SCORED THE WINNING GOALS. Argentina struggled to qualify. Had Messi not played like a man on fire last evening, Argentina was not going to Russia. And yet, they treat him like dirt.

Leo has mad love for his beloved Argentina, but his teammates need to wake up and smell the coffee. Their talisman can’t always save their hides. I am tired of seeing him rescue Argentina again and again. That is too much pressure to lay on the shoulders of one man. Whenever Argentina loses, they blame Leo instead of the team. When they need to get out of a tight spot, they look towards Leo.

It is high time that the team repays him at Russia 2018!

Watch his wicked hat trick below. The third goal was my favorite.

Olivier Giroud joins France’s top 10 record goal scorers

The road to Russia is a long one, but the French are doing enough in their group to make sure to stay on top of their game.

My eyes were on Olivier Giroud for Luxembourg v France and he did not disappoint. He struck twice in our 3-1 victory and he’s now in the top 10 goal scorers for Les Bleus.

In the 28th minute, Les Bleus went ahead after Giroud latched onto Djibril Sidibé’s pass. Luxembourg swiftly reacted by putting away a penalty six minutes later to tie things up at 1-1 after Matuidi brought down Daniel Da Mota in the area. Three minutes later, Griezmann saw that Les Bleus was back in front with a well-taken penalty after Sidibé was fouled by Da Mota.

Benjamin Mendy, one of the best passers in Europe, lived up to his reputation in the 77th minute when he assisted Giroud’s wicked header. Hot property Kylian Mbappé earned his first cap for Les Bleus when he replaced Payet in the 78th minute.

Les Bleus now have 13 points from 5 games ahead of the qualifier against Sweden on June 9th.

WCQ: Kevin Gameiro shines in Les Bleus victory against Bulgaria

Les Bleus get is right against Bulgaria, but I was HAPPY for Gameiro the most!

This evening, Kevvy G (as I call him) ran off with the headlines after scoring a brace. This was his first start for Les Bleus since November 2011, but please, don’t get carry away. He is not replacing Olivier Giroud.

Here’s how we lined up:

Les Bleus registered their first victory in the 2018 World Cup qualifying phase after that stalemate against Belarus. The Stade de France was given quite the scare when Bacary Sagna fouled Georgi Milanov and Mihail Aleksandrov converted from the spot in the 6th minute. Les Bleus responded in the 23rd minute through Kevin Gameiro who scored a superb header to make it 1-1. Three minutes later, Dimitri Payet’s cross finds the corner of the net making it 2-1. Antoine Greizmann joined the party in the 38th minute. Gameiro scored the last goal of the game in the 59th minute giving Les Bleus a much-needed boost.

Griezmann with his Euro 2016 Player of the Tournament award

With this 4-1 victory, this is how Group A currently looks like:

4 pts – Netherlands

4 pts – France

4 pts – Sweden

3 pts – Bulgaria

1 pt – Belarus

0 pt – Luxembourg

FUN FACT: No other player has scored more goals for France than Antoine Griezmann (8)

ALLEZ LES BLEUS!!

WCQ: Just call Edinson Cavani the history maker

Edinson Cavani continues to make his critics take seats and I am LOVING it!

El Matador is on a roll for both country and club. Last night, he was instrumental in Uruguay’s 3-0 victory against Venezuela, scoring a brace although Venezuela was the livelier side. Nicolas Lodeiro struck first. Cavani scored seconds after the break and again in the 79th minute to make it 3-0.

Uruguay remains on top of the CONMEBOL group while Venezuela remains at the bottom (and winless) after 9 matches.

Cavani is now tied with Diego Forlán (36 goals) as Uruguay’s top scorer. Only Luis Suárez has more: 46

Cavani is the current leading scorer in:

Europe’s top 5 leagues – 8 goals

CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying – 7 goals

Champions League – 3 goals

Keep doing you, boy! ❤

WCQ: Disappointed with Les Bleus draw

Watching Les Bleus against Belarus last evening was a major disappointment given that this is the path to the 2018 World Cup. This is the path that Les Bleus have to take in order to secure their safe passage to Russia and they failed miserably during their first game.

Well, that was a little harsh, but someone has to say it.

via Twitter

Les Bleus played to a scoreless draw against a stern Belarus side that was unwilling to repeat their 3-1 loss to the French in 2012. I think Deschamps need to make better starting selections in terms of chemistry and synchronization. I didn’t see any of that out there last evening. Steve Mandanda barely saw the ball, so his clean sheet was justified. Giroud had a hat trick of lovely chances, but his first touch failed him severely. Varane enjoyed a much better game than the 3-1 victory in the friendly against Italy. Sissoko simply ran out of energy and steam. Nothing clicked and when Les Bleus doesn’t click, we don’t get the desired result.

However, I believe in this team and I hope that we’ll get it right in the next game.

ALLEZ LES BLEUS!!
